What is the BIHN Helpline?
The BIHN Helpline is a free resource offered by the Brain Injury Hope Network. Our goal is to help brain injury survivors, family members, and caregivers find information, resources, and community support. We understand that navigating life after brain injury can be challenging, and sometimes knowing where to look is the hardest part.
Who can use the helpline?
Anyone affected by brain injury is welcome to reach out. This includes survivors, family members, caregivers, friends, and others seeking information about brain injury resources and support services.
Is the BIHN Helpline an emergency service?
No. The BIHN Helpline is not an emergency or crisis response service. Our voicemail is not monitored continuously, and we cannot provide immediate assistance.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency or immediate danger, please call 911 or your local emergency services. In the United States, you can also call or text 988 for mental health crisis support.
How does the helpline work?
Simply call (978) 238 8786 and leave a voicemail describing what you're looking for. Please include your name, email address, and a brief explanation of how we can help.
A BIHN volunteer will review your message, research available resources when appropriate, and respond by email with information that may be helpful.
How quickly will I receive a response?
We strive to respond within 1-3 business days, depending on volunteer availability and the nature of your request. BIHN is an entirely volunteer organization, and response times may occasionally be longer. We appreciate your patience.
What kinds of questions can I ask?
We're happy to help you locate information about a wide range of topics, including:
Brain injury support groups and community programs
Educational materials and brain injury organizations
Caregiver and family resources
Accessibility and sensory friendly environments
Recreation and community participation opportunities
General information about available services and assistance programs
Not sure whether your question fits? Reach out. If it's outside our scope, we'll do our best to point you toward an appropriate source of information.
Can you provide medical advice?
No. The BIHN Helpline does not provide medical advice, diagnoses, treatment recommendations, or interpretations of medical information. Our volunteers are not acting as healthcare professionals.
Questions about symptoms, medications, treatment, or medical decisions should always be directed to a qualified healthcare professional.
Can you recommend a doctor, therapist, or other healthcare provider?
We do not endorse, evaluate, rank, or recommend individual healthcare providers. However, we may be able to share general information about professional organizations, provider directories, and other resources to help you conduct your own search.
Is the information you provide guaranteed to be accurate?
All information is shared in good faith, with the intention of helping people find useful resources.
However, programs, services, contact information, eligibility requirements, and availability can change without notice. We encourage everyone to independently verify information directly with the organization or service provider, particularly when researching local resources.
BIHN cannot guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or continued availability of information provided through the helpline.
Is there a charge for this service?
No. The BIHN Helpline is completely free. It is one more way our volunteer community works to support those affected by brain injury.
Will my information be kept private?
We respect your privacy. Information shared through the helpline is used to review your request and provide a response. Messages may be accessed by authorized BIHN volunteers assisting with helpline operations.
Please avoid including sensitive medical records, Social Security numbers, financial information, or other confidential personal details in your voicemail.
Can I speak directly with someone?
The helpline is a voicemail service rather than a live telephone support line. This allows our volunteers to review requests, locate relevant information, and provide thoughtful responses by email.
We do not currently offer live telephone consultations through the helpline.
What if BIHN cannot find the information I need?
While we cannot promise an answer to every question, we will make a reasonable effort to identify relevant resources. If we cannot locate suitable information, we'll let you know.
Our mission is simple: to help people affected by brain injury feel more informed, supported, and connected.
